For Authors
Your ideas are worth communicating well.
You’ve done the Big Thing – you’ve written a book! Maybe you’ve even done the Deep Dive and revised (or even entirely rewritten!) your book. Whether you’re staring down the deep dark tunnel of revisions or are feeling close to a final copy, I can help you tackle the next phase of making your work reader-ready.
I strive to create a judgement-free space where we can sharpen (or soften!) your work to say exactly what you want to say, to the people you want to say it to.
What type of editing is right for you?
Editing can be helpful at any stage of your writing/revision process. While some of these edits can happen contemporarily, knowing what type of feedback you need at your manuscript’s current stage is key to getting the most out of working with me!
Developmental Editing
This stage is all about making sure your manuscript matches your vision. Let’s talk through your content, plot, character arcs, voice, style, POV, structure, audience, and theme.
Line Editing
Let’s make it smooth by looking at the writing itself for things like tone, readability, sensitivity, transitions, flow, pacing, sentence structure; everything you can work out once your plot is in place.
Copyediting
This phase of editing is all about the words to amplify your narrative voice. We’ll look at spelling and grammar, as well as word choice, repetition, and consistency across the board.
Proofreading
This is a final pass before publication to catch any of those last-minute typos, funky punctuation, and formatting issues to make sure readers get immersed in your story without interruption.
Are we a good fit?
While I’m open to editing most genres and styles, my time as a reader and my training in school and the workforce have shown me that I’m a better fit for some types of writing than others.
I love to edit…
- Nonfiction (especially Memoirs and academic work)
- Poetry
- Mystery/Thriller
- Middle-grade Fiction
- Young Adult
- Fantasy (including Romantasy)
- Historical and Literary Fiction
- Romance (low-spice preferred)
- Science Fiction
I’m probably not a great fit for…
- Horror
- Erotica
- Scripts
- Comic books
- Books written/created by AI
Looking for feedback but not interested in an intensive edit?
If you’ve got a completed manuscript and are looking for a reader’s feedback on your overall narrative, ask me about Beta Reading! I’m open to putting on my Reader hat and chatting about how it feels to read your book before you release it into the big wide world of critics.
